We've all been there: you spend hours crafting the perfect pitches, send them out to your dream brands, and then… crickets. That early stage of building a creator business can be a real grind.

It’s easy to think you need some complex, secret strategy to succeed. But sometimes, the most effective advice is the simplest. A fellow creator recently shared a list of the no-fluff tips that took them from hearing crickets to landing consistent paid deals. [THE DEEP DIVE] 5 Back-to-Basics Tips That Actually Land Deals

If you feel stuck, it's time to get back to fundamentals. We break down the post from Reddit user u/ashleyjoceyugc. She shared a list of the no-fluff, back-to-basics tips that took her from "sending pitches and hearing crickets" to landing consistent paid deals. Her advice was so good, we had to share it.

Below are her five principles, which are the foundation of a successful UGC business.

1. Treat Your Portfolio Like a Storefront

Don't just throw a list of video links onto a blank page. Your portfolio is a brand's first impression of you. It needs to be professional, clean, and incredibly easy for a busy brand manager to understand who you are and what you do. Make it scrollable, clear, and clickable.

2. Stop Waiting for Brands to Find You

Inbound leads are great, but you can't build a business on hope. The creator who shared these tips started seeing real traction when they began reaching out directly to brand managers and agencies via email and LinkedIn. Sending just two or three personalized pitches every day adds up to over 60 targeted connections a month.

3. Don't Overthink Your Rates

"Rate paralysis" is real. Many creators get so stuck trying to figure out the "perfect" price that they fail to pitch at all. The advice is simple: start somewhere that feels fair for your work and experience level. You can—and should—increase your rates as your skills and portfolio grow. The goal is to get in the game, not to have a perfect pricing strategy from day one.

4. Prioritize Quality Over Quantity

You don't need to post a new video every single day to get noticed. In fact, it might be hurting you. Brands are looking for quality, not just quantity. Two or three high-quality posts a week with good lighting, solid pacing, and a clear hook will do more to attract clients than seven rushed, mediocre videos.

5. Build a Real Community

Your fellow creators are your colleagues, not just your competition. Genuinely engaging with others in your niche is one of the most underrated growth strategies. Comment on their work, offer support, and build real connections. This leads to referrals, shared knowledge, and a support system that is crucial for long-term success.

[PRO TIP OF THE WEEK]

Implement the "3x3 Engagement Rule" this week. Find three other UGC creators in your niche whose work you admire. Each day, leave three genuine, thoughtful comments on their posts (more than just "great video!"). This small habit is a powerful way to build visibility and community.
