📧 UGC Community #77 | November 6, 2025

Landing your first deal is a huge milestone. Landing one in your first two days is incredible.

That's how creator u/christinahopperstad started her journey, which has led to a two-year, full-time career. But even with that early success, she recently shared a list of the things she wishes she had done differently—things that would have helped brands take her "more seriously" right from the start.

It’s a must-read for any creator who wants to skip the early mistakes and build a professional brand from day one.

[THE DEEP DIVE] A 2-Year Pro on What She'd Do Differently

This fantastic advice comes from a creator who has seen the UGC space evolve and knows what it takes to build a long-term career.

1. Your Portfolio is Everything

This was her number one point. Like many creators, she started with a portfolio on Canva. While it "worked okay," she noticed an immediate shift when she upgraded to a more professional-looking website (she co-founded her own, Mediaweb). Brands took her more seriously, and she instantly stood out from the sea of other Canva links.

2. Find (and Show) Your Niche

It's not enough to just have a niche; you need to make it obvious to any brand that lands on your page. She wishes she had shown her niche more clearly from the beginning. A clear niche instantly tells a brand if you're the right fit for their style and, most importantly, their target audience.

3. Understand and Enforce Usage Rights

This was a "big mistake" early on. She didn't understand usage rights and worked with a brand that assumed they owned all the content she created, forever. That collaboration ended, and she has been extremely careful about contracts and rights ever since. (A critical lesson for all creators!)

4. Let Your Personal Brand Shine

Brands want to work with authentic people. Let your personality and style come through in your portfolio and on your social media. This is what separates you from a faceless content factory and makes brands want to partner with you.

5. Define and Show Your Unique Value

She ends with a powerful question: "How can I show my value as a UGC creator?" It's not just about making videos. It's about what makes you stand out. Are you amazing at storytelling? Do you have a knack for creative transitions? For her, she highlights her A-list client history, her frequent travels for content creation, and her professional portfolio to prove her value.

Make Every Platform Work for Your Ads

Marketers waste millions on bad creatives.
You don’t have to.

Neurons AI predicts effectiveness in seconds.
Not days. Not weeks.

Test for recall, attention, impact, and more; before a dollar gets spent.

Brands like Google, Facebook, and Coca-Cola already trust it. Neurons clients saw results like +73% CTR, 2x CVR, and +20% brand awareness.

[PRO TIP OF THE WEEK]

This week, audit your portfolio's homepage. Can a brand tell exactly what your niche is within 5 seconds? If not, add a clear, bold headline: "Authentic UGC for [Your Niche] Brands" or "High-Performing Content for [Your Audience]." This simple change combines the power of a professional portfolio (#1) with a clear niche (#2).
