Don't sell yourself short, get paid more + 8 brand new UGC job posts

📧 UGC Community #80 | November 20, 2025

We recently saw a post from a creator who has been working with a major brand for over a year.

The situation? The brand has started "approving" and posting videos before paying. Payment takes over a month, and often only comes after the creator chases them down. To make matters worse, the brand uses the content for ads without paying any extra fees, and the creator feels "pushy" for asking to be paid.

This is a classic case of "scope creep" and boundary testing. And it happens to almost everyone.

As we head into a new year, it is the perfect time to reset your boundaries. Today, we’re talking about why you should never sell yourself short—and how to professionally demand what you’re worth.

Teams using Bright Data consistently deliver stable and predictable products, accelerate feature development, and unlock new opportunities with continuous, unblocked web access.

[THE DEEP DIVE] 3 Rules to Stop Being "The Cheap Option"

If you feel like you're being taken advantage of, you probably are. Here are three rules to regain control of your business relationships.

1. "Pushy" is a Mindset Trap. It’s Called "Professional."

The creator mentioned feeling "pushy" for asking about late payments. Let's reframe that immediately.

  • Amateur Mindset: "I hope they pay me soon. I don't want to annoy them."

  • Pro Mindset: "Per our agreement, invoice #104 is now 5 days overdue. Please confirm when this will be processed."

Asking to be paid for work you have delivered is not pushy. It is standard business. Large companies have accounting departments whose sole job is to pay invoices. You aren't bothering them; you are giving them the info they need to do their job.

2. The "Portal" is Not a Shield

Many big brands use vendor portals to upload briefs and contracts. These systems are often designed to automate everything—including delaying your payment.

  • The Fix: Do not let a portal dictate your terms. If a portal says "Net 60" (payment in 60 days) but you agreed to "Net 15," you need to email your human contact immediately.

  • The Leverage: If payments are late, stop the work. "I’ve loved working on this campaign, but I cannot move forward with the next batch of videos until the outstanding invoices from last month are cleared."

3. Audit Your Usage Rights (and Bill for Them)

If a brand is running your video as a Spark Ad or dark post and not paying you for ad rights, they are stealing from you. Period.

  • How to Check: Go to the TikTok Creative Center or Facebook Ad Library and search for the brand's name. If you see your face in an active ad, check your contract.

  • The Action: If ad rights weren't included, send an invoice. "Hi team, I noticed my video [Video Name] is currently running as a paid ad. My base rate covers organic use only. I’ve attached an invoice for the monthly ad usage fee. Please let me know if you plan to continue running it next month so I can send over the renewal agreement."

[PRO TIP OF THE WEEK]

The "New Year" Rate Reset. January 1st is the ultimate excuse to reset a relationship. Send this email to any client who has been underpaying you or paying late:

"Hi [Client Name], I’ve loved working with you this year! As I plan for 2026, I’m updating my standard contract and rates to reflect my current services. Attached is my new rate card and updated payment terms (Net 15), which will be effective for all new briefs starting Jan 1st. Looking forward to another great year together!"
